Teenager Killed, Another Seriously Injured in Bealeton Accident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What Happened:

Two siblings, ages 16 and 14, were getting a ride in a Toyota Camry to Liberty High School in Bealeton, Virginia (VA) when the car swerved off the road then shot back across the highway and into a ditch on state route 644. The 16-year-old brother lost his life at the scene of the accident. The 14-year-old sister suffered serious personal injuries and is currently at a local hospital in critical condition, according to CBSLocal.com.

Both siblings were wearing seat belts. The at-fault driver was also wearing and seat belt and was able to escape injury. Charges are pending against the driver.

The Virginia Injury Lawyer’s Perspective:

The family of the siblings should consider speaking with a Virginia wrongful death lawyer to discuss their legal options. They may have grounds to seek damages against the driver for the wrongful death of their son and the serious injuries of their daughter. The family is not precluded from filing a claim in civil court just because the driver may be facing criminal charges.
