Three Injuries Reported in Car/Tractor Trailer Crash in Fredericksburg | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What Happened:

While traveling north on I-95 in Spotsylvania County VA, a 2006 Honda CRV lost control and flew off the right side of the highway. The driver of the Honda then gravely overcorrected, spun back onto the road and smashed into a northbound tractor-trailer in the center lane of I-95.

The tractor-trailer jackknifed and blocked all of the northbound lanes. The Honda then slammed into a guardrail and stopped on the right shoulder.

The driver and two passengers in the CRV suffered unknown injuries and were transported to a local hospital. According to local reports, the driver was cited for reckless driving. The truck driver suffered no injuries. About 150 gallons of diesel fuel spilled on the highway, and all three northbound lanes of I-95 were closed. The Virginia Department of Transportation arrived on the scene to clean up the spill.

The Virginia Injury Lawyer’s Perspective:

The driver of the Honda who allegedly caused this serious crash has been charged with reckless driving, which is described in Virginia Statute 46.2-852. More charges may be filed later. The injured passengers should consider speaking to a Virginia personal injury lawyer since they may have grounds to seek restitution against the at-fault driver. Obviously, bringing such a claim may be awkward if the passengers are friends with the driver, but keep in mind that the claim would be filed against the driver’s insurance policy.
