Three Vehicle Crash in NC Kills1 and Injures 6 | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A woman has died and six others are injured after an accident in Gaston, North Carolina (NC) on August 9. The rrdailyherald.com (Roanoke Rapids Daily Herald) reported that the accident occurred around 9:00 p.m. Saturday evening on Highway 46 near Gus Smith Road.

According to Gaston Fire and Rescue, the crash concerned a wrecker that was towing a car, a pickup truck, and a car, but additional details are unavailable and the North Carolina Highway Patrol says the investigation is ongoing. What is known is that Northampton County paramedics pronounced one woman dead at the scene. Firefighters extricated her body and remained on the scene until 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Six additional people were transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center.

I sincerely hope North Carolina Highway Patrol investigators can determine the cause of this awful accident. The woman’s family must be shocked by this sudden loss, and perhaps knowing what occurred could start to ease the family’s pain.

After an accident, seriously injured victims and family members of deceased victims have a lot to deal with. An injured victim may have hospital and follow-up outpatient treatment, and family who survived a deceased victim must suddenly make funeral and burial plans they didn’t plan to make for years. Medical treatment is expensive, funerals are expensive, and the last thing anyone needs during an already difficult time is a mounting pile of bills without enough money to pay them.

Our attorneys specialize in personal injury law, and we understand how insurance companies operate. Sometimes companies will say victims don’t need a lawyer; sometimes adjusters offer a low settlement betting an overwhelmed victim will decide a little money is better than no money at all. Insurance adjusters are trying to get the best deal for their company, and some insurance adjusters have no qualms about taking advantage of injured people to do it. That’s where a lawyer can help.

A victim or family member of a victim in a multiple vehicle accident like this one – where there are multiple sources of recovery and at least one commercial vehicle – should talk to an attorney about a potential claim against one or more insurance sources. Reputable law firms like ours offer confidential consultations with an attorney free of charge. For more information, check out some of the settlements and verdicts we’ve obtained for clients.
