Toro Recalls Riding Mowers Due to Fire Hazard | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Toro Co. of Bloomington, Minn. announced the recall of the company’s Zero Turn riding mowers due to a fire hazard. According to the press announcement released by the CPSC, the mower’s idler pulley can rub against the mower’s fuel tank which can cause a fire. Toro has received six complaints from consumers, although no injuries were reported from these incidents.

The recalled mowers are the Toro Z Master Commercial 2000 Series ZRT riding mowers and were manufactured in 2012 and 2013. The mowers are red and black. “Toro” and “2000 Series” are printed on the side and “Z Master Commercial” on the front of the mowers. The model and serial numbers can be found on metal plate located at the front of the mower, below the seat, on the right-hand side, while viewing from the driver’s seat. The mowers were sold nationwide from nationwide from January 2012 through April 2013 and retailed between $7,700 and $8,700.

The model and corresponding serial numbers being recalled are: model number 74141 with serial numbers ranging from 312000101 to 312000784 and 313000101 to 313000364; model number 74143 with serial numbers ranging from 312000101 to 312000881 and 313000101 to 313000432; and model number 74145 with serial numbers ranging from 312000101 to 312001178 and 313000101 to 313000443.

Consumers who have one of these mowers are advised to stop using the mower immediately and to contact a Toro dealer to schedule a free repair and/or to check if the repair has already been made to the mower. Toro says it has already contacted registered owners of the recalled mowers.
