Two Injured When Car Collides With Police Cruiser in Hampton, VA | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

The Fourth of July is one of the busiest nights of the year for drunk driving arrests. One such arrest took a bad turn in Hampton, Virginia (VA), when a  state trooper’s cruiser was hit from behind on the shoulder of I-64 while processing a suspected drunk driver.

The police officer and the suspect were sitting in the stopped car when a Mustang struck them. The at-fault driver was charged with reckless driving despite claiming that he was only trying to avoid colliding with a motorcycle whose rider had braked unexpectedly in front of him.

The Virginia Personal Injury Lawyers’ Perspective

While the crash does appear to be an accident, the fact remains that two people were injured as a result of the Mustang driver losing control of his car. Perhaps he was driving a bit too fast or following a bit too closely. Either way, the injured should definitely discuss their legal options with a Virginia personal injury lawyer. They may be entitled to recover compensation for their medical bills and any lost wages.
