Two Passengers Killed in Roanoke County Speeding Car Accident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Fatal Traffic Collision on Merriman Road, Roanoke County, VA

A tragic accident occurred at the 5900 block of Merriman Road in Roanoke County. The driver of a vehicle was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver suddenly lost control, ran off the right side of the road, became airborne and crashed into a power pole before landing upside down on a homeowner’s lawn, according to roanoke.com.  Jefferson Cody Elliott and Danial Wayne Buckner (named in The Republic) both died at the scene of the accident. Neither had reached the age of 21 before their untimely deaths. Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the victims. Losing a loved one is always heartbreaking, but the pain is made even worse when the loss is sudden and unexpected. It’s also so tragic when a young life is extinguished. These two young men had their whole lives ahead of them. The exact cause of the accident remains unknown, but police suspect that speed was a critical factor in causing this awful accident. Unfortunately, fatal wrecks caused by speeding are quite common. In fact, over 10,000 people died in 2010 in accidents caused by speeding, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
