Victim Killed Instantly in Rt 660 Crash in Mathews County

Comments (0)

A 20 year-old Moon, VA. woman was killed when the car she was driving slammed into a John Deere front loader. The accident occurred in the 1800 block of East River Road, also known as Route 660, in Mathews County.

According to police, the victim was driving a 2001 Saturn sedan northbound on Route 660, a two lane roadway with double solid lines, when she struck the front loader. The driver of the John Deere vehicle was using the front loader to tow another vehicle. He was driving southbound and stopped to make adjustments to the vehicle being towed. However, the front loader of the John Deere was angled and partially in the northbound lanes when it was struck by the victim.

The victim was killed immediately on impact. Police report she was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. They also say speed and alcohol were not factors in the accident. The driver of the front loader was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

A Virginia State Police accident reconstruction team was on the scene of the crash. The driver of the front loader was charged with improper stopping and improper towing.

The driver of a vehicle who unintentionally causes the death of another in an accident may be held liable for negligence. The family of the victim may want to consult with a Virginia wrongful death attorney about filing a lawsuit against the driver of the front loader. The family may be entitled to compensation for sorrow, mental anguish, and loss of solace (i.e. companionship, guidance), lost income, services, protection, care and assistance. Families may also be entitled to compensation for any medical or funeral expenses incurred for the loss of their loved one.

Our Virginia personal injury lawyers have represented many families in wrongful death lawsuits. In one case, we secured a $2.4 million settlement for the family of a man who was killed in a tractor-trailer accident. The victim was a passenger in a car that was clipped by a tractor-trailer attempting to change lanes. The driver miscalculated the distance between his truck and the rear of the car, and when the truck hit the car, it flipped over, killing our client.
