Virginia Man Killed, Another Injured, in Tennessee Boating Accident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

One Virginia family’s Labor Day started tragically when a man was killed in a boating accident in Tennessee before noon on September 3, 2012. According to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, William Cantrell was in a fishing boat with Timothy Cantrell when they collided with another fishing boat in Hamblen County, TN. William Cantrell, of Pound, Virginia, was killed, and Timothy Cantrell was taken to a hospital with injuries.

Our sympathies are with the victims and their families. Dealing with wrongful death and personal injury is difficult, and it becomes even more challenging when an accident occurs in a different state. Generally, any legal action must be taken in the state in which the injury or death occurred. As Virginia personal injury attorneys, we are frequently contacted by Virginia residents that have been injured or had a family member who has been injured in a different state. We welcome these calls and do everything we can to ensure they receive competent representation in the proper location.

This guide provides information for those who have been injured in a boating accident. While it was written by our attorneys for Virginia boating accident victims, much of the information applies regardless of where the accident occurred. If you have further questions, see our answers to frequently asked boat crash questions, or contact one of our experienced VA watercraft accident attorneys.
