Woman Killed in Double Hit-and-Run Accident in North Carolina (NC) | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

It’s horrific enough every time a driver fails to stop after an accident, leaving a victim vulnerable on the road. It’s even worse when someone becomes the victim of two hit and run crashes. This is the fate that befell a woman in Craven County, North Carolina (NC), who died from injuries she sustained in the accidents.

TV station WNCT is reporting that investigators called to the scene at 4 am on June 22, 2011, determined that the  25-year-old from Williamston, NC, died after being run over near Wilmar Road by a commercial truck and a passenger vehicle. Both drivers left the scene of the accident, but police have contacted someone they believe was in the passenger vehicle.

In serious accidents that end another person’s life, some drivers take the cowardly course and flee the scene. Ultimately, such an action will cause serious consequences for the at-fault driver. Hit-and-run convictions can result in the suspension or revocation of a driver’s license for life and imprisonment.

As experienced North Carolina wrongful death attorneys, we see far too many hit-and-run accidents. In 2009 we reported on how a 65-year-old woman who was hit by a hit-and-run driver on a bike path in Kill Devil Hills, NC, died of her injuries. And earlier this year, our Virginia Beach based wrongful death attorneys noted how, a man who was walking down Victory Boulevard in Portsmouth, Virginia, VA  died after he was struck by a vehicle. In that case the car left the scene and failed to return, police said. A 34-year-old man was later indicted on charges of leaving the scene and reckless driving.
