Wreck on U.S. 460 Results in Death of Virginia Beach Resident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Thomas David Rush (Virginian Pilot, 09-19-2013), a Virginia Beach resident, lost his life in a terrible wreck that occurred on U.S. 460 near Gardner Lane in Suffolk, Virginia (VA). Mr. Rush was killed in an eight-vehicle crash including two tractor trailers and six passenger vehicles, according to the aforementioned Virginian Pilot article. Mr. Rush was reportedly operating one of the tractor trailers. He was only 48 years old.

In addition to Mr. Rush’s tragic and untimely death, six people suffered injuries in this horrific wreck. Two of the victims had to be airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

The exact cause of this accident remains unknown, as of the date of this posting. Was there a distracted driver that set off a chain reaction wreck? Did one of the vehicles suffer a malfunction? Maybe a blown tire? No one can say for sure at this time. Once an incident report is completed by investigators, we’ll have a clearer picture of how this terrible Suffolk crash occurred.

Regardless of the cause, the fact remains that multiple lives were adversely affected as a result of this accident. Some of the victims had their lives turned upside down in the blink of an eye and may never fully recover. This is the unfortunate consequence of serious, multi-vehicle accidents.
