A 1998 Lexus was traveling west of Military Highway on Interstate 264 (I-264) in Norfolk when chaos ensued. The driver of the vehicle reportedly lost control, went off the road and crashed into a tree. A passenger in the car was killed. His name was Jocqui Terrell Garry, a Portsmouth resident (named in Fox43 news article). He was only 18 years old. Our deepest condolences go out to the Garry family. Losing someone you love is always heartbreaking, but the pain is made even worse when that loved one is taken from you in an abrupt and unexpected manner. It’s even worse when the victim is so young and had their whole life ahead of them. We do not know what exactly caused the driver to lose control (as of the date of this posting). Was the driver distracted? Was there a mechanical issue? We will have to wait and see what the incident report reveals.
