Sussex County Deputy Injured While Responding to I-95 Truck Wreck | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

One serious traffic accident led to another Sussex County, Virginia (VA). According to news reports, a sheriff’s deputy lost control of his cruiser on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, while responding to a two-truck crash on Interstate 95. Two people were seriously injured, while a third incurred minor injuries.

The initial Virginia truck accident took place as a trucker was traveling southbound on I-95 and was forced to swerve to avoid another vehicle. His big rig ran off of the road and tipped over, while a second tractor-trailer jackknifed. One trucker had to be extracted from his vehicle. Jefferies was cited for reckless driving.

Deputy Carlos Turner was responding to the Virginia truck accident when he lost control of his vehicle and veered off of the road. The 37-year-old officer then overcorrected and collided head-on with a passenger vehicle a 31-year-old driver. Both men were airlifted to the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond for treatment after suffering serious injuries.
