Tanker Truck Crashes On Dulles Greenway In Loudoun County, Virginia | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Just a day after a fatal tanker truck accident in Fairfax County, Virginia, took the life of a truck driver in a fiery crash, a second tanker truck has crashed in Ashburn in the westbound lanes of the Dulles Greenway.

According to local news sources and the Virginia State Police, The Virginia truck accident took place at about 5:30 in the morning on August 30 when a tanker overturned on Belmont Ridge Road, seriously injuring the driver and shutting down the westbound lanes of the road.

Loudoun County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management and the Loudoun County Hazardous Materials Response team responded to the crash. The injured trucker was flown by medical helicopter to Inovia Fairfax Hospital for treatment. At the same time, emergency crews emptied the tanker truck of over 7,000 of fuel and placed the flammable, hazardous material in a different truck. The road was closed for most of the day as crews worked to clear the accident safely and as police investigated the crash. The truck was not on fire, according to responders, despite some early reports.  

The EPA and the DEQ also responded to the scene of the hazmat truck accident to make sure that no fuel had flowed into waterways or water sources.

Virginia State Police are still investigating the truck wreck but say that charges may be pending.
