VA Truck Accident Lawyers: Tractor-Trailer Hauling Explosives Crashes in Amherst County | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

All lanes of Route 151 in Amherst County were closed in both directions on Wednesday morning, May 22, after a commercial tractor-trailer carrying explosives ran off of the road and overturned on the highway.

According to local news sources, the Virginia commercial truck accident took place at just after seven in the morning when a tractor-trailer carrying explosives to a nearby rock quarry lost control and drove off of the left side of the road, overturning in a shallow ditch abutting the shoulder.

The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries in the accident and was transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment. He is expected to fully recover from his injuries.

Authorities in the area closed the highway in both directions to clean up the wreckage and investigate the accident. Because explosives were involved, extra caution was taken. All traffic in the area of Route 151 near Fletchers Level Road (Route 610) was detoured, slowing the Wednesday morning commute for many drivers.

The Amherst County truck accident is still under investigation. Police are not yet sure why the truck ran off of the road or who was at fault for the one-vehicle crash.

Another tractor-trailer accident occurred on the same day in Virginia: on I-64 outside of Norfolk, Virginia, two vehicles collided near Military Highway early in the afternoon. Although injuries were reported in connection with the truck accident, it is not clear how many people were injured or how serious the injuries were. All westbound lanes of the interstate were closed for several hours during the afternoon commute as authorities cleared the wreck from the road.
