Virginia Tractor-Trailer Accident Leaves One Dead in Danville | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A truck driver was killed in an early-morning big rig accident on the Route 29 Expressway in Danville, Virginia, on Thursday, February 23.

According to local news reports, a commercial delivery truck carrying milk was traveling in the left lane of Route 29 at just after two in the morning when the tractor-trailer accident took place. The driver lost control of his vehicle and went into the right lane where another tractor-trailer was traveling. The second truck, an International tractor-trailer, was struck and the first truck left the right side of the roadway and flipped over.

The driver of the delivery truck, 61-year-old Nelson Layman, of Dayton, Virginia, was killed in the truck accident. The driver of the second commercial truck was not injured in the crash, which occurred near the Route 58 exchange.

Route 29 was closed for several hours and traffic was re-routed as investigators examined the scene of the crash and clean-up crews removed the disabled vehicles. The milk from the delivery truck was cleaned up with assistance form the Virginia Department of Agriculture.
