Virginia State Police reported that they charged a Bassett truck driver with reckless driving after a one-vehicle accident at an intersection in Bedford County, Virginia.
According to local Bedford County news sources including the Lynchburg News & Advance, 54-year-old Michael Blanche of Bassett, Virginia, was driving on Route 24 eastbound and approaching the intersection of Route 732 at a few minutes before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, when he lost control of his commercial truck. The tanker truck, which was hauling a shipment of sludge, veered off of the right side of the road, struck an embankment, and flipped over.
Blanche was wearing a seat belt and suffered only minor injuries in the Virginia truck rollover accident. However, he has been charged with reckless driving in connection with the accident, which is still under investigation. It remains unclear what could have caused the truck to run off of the road, and whether fatigue, inattention, distracted driving, driving under the influence, road conditions, or speed could have been factors in the accident.
Reckless driving is a major moving violation that can stem from a number of dangerous traffic violations, including speeding, unsafe lane changes, driver inattention, driving without due care, or unsafe passing – any violation that puts other people on the road or their property in danger.
