A Shenandoah County, VA, woman has filed a Virginia medical malpractice lawsuit against a doctor and a medical office. She claims her physician failed to remove a birth control device from her abdomen, despite multiple complaints and persistent symptoms.
The Winchester lawsuit alleges that Angela Collins suffered an ectopic pregnancy in 2007 and had to undergo surgery. After the surgery, Collins complained multiple times of abdominal pain and visited her doctor four times, but was told her issues stemmed from scar tissue. Three years later, still suffering from pain, Collins went to the emergency room. There, they found a Mirena IUD floating in her abdomen and removed it during surgery.
The Shenandoah County medical malpractice lawsuit claims that the doctor and medical office were negligent when they failed to diagnose and properly treat her medical condition - they left a foreign object in her body, ignored her requests to search for the object, and misdirected her with a wrong diagnosis.
Collins is suing Blue Ridge Gynecology & Obstetrics and Dr. Karen Wade for $2 million in damages. She is seeking compensation for physical pain, emotional pain, disability, disfigurement, lost wages, future medical costs, and loss of enjoyment of life.
