Man Killed by Another Driver in Portsmouth, Virginia, (VA) Motorcycle Crash | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A motorcyclist was killed by the driver of another vehicle in Portsmouth, Virginia (VA), this month.

According to the Virginian-Pilot, the rider was travelling through the intersection of Portsmouth Boulevard and Des Moines Avenue when another driver suddenly attempted a left-hand turn onto the boulevard. Tragically, the rider of the motorcycle, Daniel W. Gilmore, died from his injuries at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was 24 years old.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Daniel Gilmore. As a father myself, I can only imagine the heartbreak that accompanies the sudden loss of a loved one, especially one at such a young age.

We at Shapiro & Appleton& Duffan are very familiar with the pain and suffering felt by the families of those who have been killed or injured in a motorcycle or motor vehicle crash. As Virginia (VA) personal injury lawyers, we have handled many cases involving accidents of this type. For instance, we secured a $1,512,000.00 settlement for a husband and wife who were severely injured when a police car struck their motorcycle head on in Albemarle County, VA.

With the ever-increasing traffic congestion on the roads of Hampton Roads, it is very important that we as drivers make a conscious effort to be aware of motorcycles on the road, and to use great caution when they are nearby. This kind of failure to yield when taking a left is one of the most common ways bikers get hit. In fact, we are currently working on two serious injury cases with nearly identical facts.
