Reckless Driving Fatality in Isle of Wight

A Dodge pickup truck was traveling down Sugar Hill Road in Isle of Wight, Virginia (VA) when the pickup truck passed through the intersection of Route 17 and pulled into the path of a Plymouth van. That’s when chaos ensued. The two vehicles collided sending the truck directly into a utility pole. Multiple injuries were reported and, even worse, a 56-year-old man named Humberto Gutierrez-Fuentevilla lost his life. Mr. Gutierrez-Fuentevilla (named in the Daily Press) was a passenger in the van that was hit by the pickup truck.  Another passenger in the van was taken to Riverside Regional Hospital in Newport News for treatment. Mr. Gutierrez-Fuentevilla, a Suffolk resident, died at the hospital, according to the Daily Press article. Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Mr. Gutierrez-Fuentevilla. Losing a loved one is always heartbreaking, but the pain is made that much worse when the loss is sudden and completely unexpected. Imagine, in the blink of an eye, Mr. Gutierrez-Fuentevilla had his life taken and his family’s lives were turned upside down. Virginia State Police have charged the driver of the pickup truck with reckless driving.
