A Nelson County, Virginia (VA) grand jury indicted a man from Afton this week on a single count of involuntary manslaughter in a one car crash that killed his passenger last summer.
The man was arrested after the Aug. 5 crash on Virginia 6, about one mile west of Virginia 151. The other man died at the scene of the crash.
According to Virginia State Police, the accused drove his Honda Civic off the road on a curve and slammed into a tree and fence. Neither man was wearing a seat belt.
The driver also was charged with DUI and driving on a suspended license.
He will be arraigned July 23.
Our personal injury firm aggressively sues convicted drunk drivers in civil court. One of our recent DUI cases involved a drunk driver who literally drove up on the sidewalk and hit our client as he was walking out of a gym. The driver had a blood alcohol content that was twice the legal limit.
The driver carried $100,000 of liability coverage, and in our lawsuit we were able to secure those funds as damages for our client’s serious leg injuries. Those injuries required four surgeries and had a major impact on his quality of life.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the victim of this apparent drunk driver in Nelson County.
