Arlington, Virginia (VA) Fertility Therapy Patient Recovers $1.5 million due to Negligent Care that Casued Stroke | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

An Arlington area patient undergoing fertility care by a doctor ended up with a stroke and paralysis, and was forced to sue the surgeon’s insurance company to get compensation for her losses.  The plaintiff was undergoing in vitro fertilization therapy when her doctor ignored the signs of a serious condition known as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (“OHSS”).  The doctor further failed to correctly treat this dangerous condition, which resulted in a stroke to the right side of the plaintiff’s brain.  She has since had trouble walking and lost some strength in her left hand.  A jury awarded her $1.5 million.

We have great experience in handling cases involving medical malpractice and doctor mistakes.  For example, we were able to secure a $1.25 million settlement (then the maximum amount recoverable) for a woman who went in for lower back surgery, and ultimately had both legs amputated due to the surgeon’s negligence.

Congratulations to Malcolm P. McConnell III and Jason W. Konvicka for winning this medical malpractice case against a negligent surgeon.  These cap busting results in medical negligence cases typically are only achieved by the top lawyers who know how to beat the insurers and defense attorneys in this complex area of personal injury law.
