Asbestos Victims Must Act Fast to Get Compensation

The Mesothelioma Victims Center published a news release Nov. 25 that stressed the important of anyone diagnosed with mesothelioma to speak to a personal injury attorney without delay. Some mesothelioma sufferers and their families find out that the window of opportunity to file an asbestos lawsuit has passed.

The Victims Center stresses that the mesothelioma asbestos compensation clock in the US starts the day that the diagnosis is confirmed by a physician. If the person or family puts off initiating the mesothelioma compensation process, the time to file a claim could be as little as one year in some states.

The Center added that many former skilled trade workers who worked with asbestos and now have the deadly lung cancer, make the following mistakes after diagnosis:

·         Avoiding the entire claims process because they don’t want to deal with lawyers.

·         Failing to do research on mesothelioma from objective sources. They may believe Internet and TV ads that tell them that you do not need to file a lawsuit to receive mesothelioma compensation.

·         Hiring an attorney who does not specialize in mesothelioma cases. Victims only should work with a proven mesothelioma personal injury attorney who knows how to obtain maximum compensation in these complex cases.

As a mesothelioma attorney in Virginia, I know the terrible ravages of this horrible lung cancer. I most often represent former railroad company victims who may have worked for Norfolk Southern, CSX and other large railroad companies. If I know anything, it is this: The victim needs to speak to a qualified attorney immediately after mesothelioma diagnosis. Large settlements are possible, but you need to act fast.

There are mountains of evidence proving that many large railroads knew of the terrible dangers workers faced decades ago when they worked with asbestos insulation in rail cars and railyard equipment. In fact, many companies knew during the Franklin Roosevelt administration that asbestos could cause deadly lung problems.

Yet, it was not until the 90s that many rail companies finally removed asbestos from their equipment. Such flagrant disregard for railroad employee safety is completely unacceptable, and I do my best to ensure that every mesothelioma victim I represent gets every dime of compensation they deserve.

Remember, the clock is ticking once your diagnosis has been confirmed by a doctor. To ensure that you and your family get the compensation you deserve, speak to qualified legal counsel without delay.
