Beyaz: New Name Same Dangerous Birth Control Pill as Yaz, Yazmine and Ocella. | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Beyaz lawyerAs more and more young women are pursuing careers and higher education they are turning towards birth control to postpone having a family. 2.3 American women are currently taken oral contraceptives often called “the pill.” Modern medicine has created a number of different types of oral contraceptives that women can take and most are very safe and effective.

However one company, Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, creates a set of contraceptive pills —Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella — that have been found to have particularly dangerous side effects.  Although they have different names they are the same dangerous pill. The problem is the key chemical ingredient, drospirenone which is combined with estrogen. No other oral contraceptive (or birth control pill) contains the drug. Now they are peddling a new pill called Beyaz. Made of the same it simply adds folic acid (vitamin B-9) to the Yaz formulation which does nothing to lessen the side effects.

How Dangerous?  Studies show that:

  • Women are twice as likely as men to develop gallstones
  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Gallbladder disease.

After that laundry list of terrible side effects why would any women even ever risk taking Yaz, Yazmine or Ocella when there are so many others to choose from? As a Virginia (VA) dangerous drug attorney I know that most woman simply don’t know about the dangers. To make matters worse the pills are particularly dangerous because they have been marketed to young women with misleading advertising and false claims.

If you are currently taking one of these pills you should consult with your doctor about finding an alternative birth control method.  Don’t become a victim find out more by reading our free dangerous drug guide: What to Do If Hurt by a Prescription Drug.
