Bicyclist Injured at Intersection of Lynnhaven Parkway and Holland Road in Virginia Beach | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A bicycle rider was hit by an SUV in Virginia Beach and had to be taken to a hospital due to the severity of their injuries. The bicyclist was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Lynnhaven Parkway and Holland Road, according to WAVY.com.

News reports do not indicate the extent of injuries to the bike rider, but many believe they are potentially life-threatening injuries. The bicyclist was crossing Lynnhaven from north to south at the Holland Road intersection when the unfortunate incident occurred. The bicycle was hit by an SUV. If that wasn’t bad enough, the driver of the SUV reportedly kept going after hitting the bicyclist and had to be followed by a witness who called police.

The vehicle eventually stopped at Lynnhaven and Cherie Drive. The SUV driver is likely going to face criminal charges. You are legally obligated to remain at the scene of an accident. Fleeing only makes the situation worse.

We sincerely hope the injured bicyclist is able to make a speedy recovery. If the rumors are true that they suffered life-threatening injuries, the bicylcist may be forced to endure months, or even years, of physical therapy to fully recover.

It’s an unfortunate fact – many bike riders suffer serious, permanent injuries in these types of accidents and Virginia Beach is the location of many bike-SUV collisions. For example, in 2013, approximately 109 bicyclists were involved in accidents with vehicles, according to the Virginia DMV. That’s more than any other locality in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
