Boat Accident Leads to Death of Newport News Man | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Alexander Brown was killed in a boat accident that occurred on the James River. He reportedly fell from a Venture sailboat when it capsized, according to the Daily Press. He was only 25 years old.

Brown’s body was later discovered by a commercial fisherman in the Warwick River near Deep Creek Newport News, Virginia (VA).

Our deepest sympathies go out to the Brown family. Brown recently earned his master’s in aerospace engineering and had his whole life ahead of him. His parents and loved ones are probably devastated right now and probably want to know if this boat accident could have been prevented.

The exact details of what caused this VA boat accident remain unknown. Investigators stated that it does not appear the Venture boat was hit by another boat, or collided with anything, so there is a distinct possibility that the boat was negligently operated. However, we will have to wait and see what the accident report reveals.

If it turns out that the boat was negligently operated, the Brown family should consider speaking to a wrongful death lawyer. Obviously, no amount of money will ever be able to truly compensate for the loss of a loved one, but filing a claim can help cover unexpected expenses and obtain some semblance of justice for your lost loved one.
