Bugaboo Issues Another Recall For Defective Strollers | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What Happened

A recall has been issued by Bugaboo for over 10,000 Bugaboo Cameleon3 Strollers on March 27, 2013. The strollers have been recalled by the company because the carrying handle can break and detach posing a fall hazard. According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), 16 complaints have been filed by consumers about the handles breaking. The CPSC recommends all consumers immediately remove the handle and contact Bugaboo for a replacement. The recalled model numbers include from 19010 11153 00001 to 19010 51248 00215. The serial numbers are printed beneath the seat. The strollers were sold at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, child product stores like Toys”R”Us and Buy Buy Baby, and at Bugaboo.com and other online outlets.

The Virginia Personal Injury Lawyers Perspective

This is Bugaboos second recall this year! The previous recall came back in January when the Bugaboo Cameleon and Bugaboo Donkey strollers were recalled due to the carry handle becoming disengaged that would  cause the handle to detach, which could cause the child to fall or potentially choke. The January recall was issued for around 46,000 strollers. With this latest recall of at least 10,000, Bugaboo has recalled more than 56,000 strollers in span of two months. This is very disconcerting that a company is continually putting out defective products that put your child at risk.

Product Liability claims are filed for recovering against the manufacturer, distributor or seller of a defective product that caused injury or harm to a consumer. Companies have the duty to design, manufacture, test and inspect its product to assure that the product is safe for reasonably foreseeable use. When these products fail to perform their duty of safety, consumers may have the right to civil action.
