Our drunk driving personal injury lawyers are strong believers in suing convicted drunk drivers for damages in civil court. Not only must they face stiff jail sentences; they also must pay for their mistake again in monetary terms. Perhaps that double punishment will serve as a reminder to others to never get behind a wheel after drinking.
We helped one driver and his three passengers in 2008 who were rear ended and seriously injured by a drunk driver. His car was rear ended by a drunk driver. Our client had serious injuries that required treatment over a year.
We waited until the criminal trial was over in the case, and then we accessed public trial records to get the drunk driver’s BAC level, which was .21. This is more than double the legal limit. We were able to secure a $112,000 settlement in the case due to our diligence in pursuing punitive damages and also by finding several sources of insurance payment for the wreck.
