Each morning, the Marines of the 2nd Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team (FAST Company, Marine Security Force Regiment go running as part of a rigorous physical training routine. Tragically, one Marine in Yorktown, Virginia (VA) will never get to return to his team after he died when a car crashed into a group of 44 Marines running in formation along Halstead Road on the Naval Weapons Station. Two others suffered injuries in the fatal accident.
The Marines were all wearing reflective clothing, according to the Daily Press. So the most pressing question about this awful accident is what exactly caused the car to collide with the Marines running in formation. Was the at-fault driver distracted? Was the person under the influence of alcohol or another substance? Was there a mechanical issue with their vehicle? We will have to wait and see what the accident report reveals.
