Kayla, an 8 year old girl from Chesapeake, Virginia (VA), was mauled by a pit bull on March 8, 2007. The child was rushed to Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia (VA). She was delivering Girl Scout cookies when the dog lunged at her arm, leaving her with 70 to 100 stitches. The parents sued to recover for the child’s injuries in the Chesapeake Circuit Court, in Chesapeake, Virginia (VA).Barbara Waters, Cecil Hawk, and Sherry Hawk, the defendants in the case, were described as either the owners, keepers or harborers of Dixie, their pit bull. Dixie was euthanized at Chesapeake Animal Control.
