Child Injured at Birth Receives $2.3 Million Jury Award | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Firm attorney Jim Lewis represented a child who suffered shoulder dystocia, a permanent arm injury, at birth. The claim was brought against a nurse-midwife who assisted the child’s mother at birth. A jury determined the nurse’s negligent care was the cause of the child’s arm injury.

The jury awarded the child $2.3 million and $60,000 to the mother for reimbursement of medical expenses, according to The Virginian-Pilot.

Jim fought hard to get as much compensation as possible since this child’s life will be changed forever due to the injury. Just think, this child may never be able to play sports because of the negligent care provided at birth.

Our firm takes pride in working tirelessly for clients and doing everything in our power to achieve results. Jim’s effort in this case exemplifies that philosophy. We are glad our services were able to provide some semblance of justice for our wrongfully injured client.
