Claremont Couple Injured in Motorcycle Accident, One Critically | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What happened:

A husband and wife were both struck as they were traveling north on Old Shelby Road, in Hickory, N.C. on motorcycles. Both victims were airlifted by separate helicopters to Carolinas Medical Center.

The Claremont couple, Robert and Jennie Shadowens, who are both in their thirties, were traveling with another motorcyclist.  The three were driving in line in the center lane, when a truck that was traveling south crossed the center line and hit the couple.  The other motorcyclist wasn’t hit.

Police said that drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident. A license check had been set up by state troopers, and the three motorcyclists had been processed through the checkpoint shortly before the accident. A blood sample was taken from the 66 year old driver of the truck to be sent for analysis.

Robert Shadowens was listed in critical condition and Jennie Shadowens was listed in good condition. Police are investigating the accident and no charges have yet been filed.
