CPSC Announces Recall of Over 12,000 Bikes Due to Fall Hazard | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What happened:

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of over 12,000 high-end bicycles because of fall hazards. The bike is manufactured by Specialized Bicycle Components. According to a press release issued by the CPSC, the steerer tube in the front fork can break, posing a fall hazard. There are two injury-causing incidents caused by the defect that have been reported to the CPSC. One of those incidents described “facial injuries and lacerations requiring stitches.”

The recall includes all models of the 2012 Tarmac SL4, 2013 Tarmac SL4, 2013 Crux and 2013 Secteur Disc. The 2012 and 2013 model road bicycles and framesets come in various colors and have the brand name “Specialized” on the frame.  The model name “Tarmac SL4,” “Crux” or “Secteur” is also located on the frame.
