An avid cyclist in Virginia Beach was struck by a car, leaving him with a collapsed lung, lacerated spleen, broken collar bone and knee cap, and a fractured ankle. He currently is on a ventilator.

Police reported that the car struck the 35 year-old biker in the 1800 block of Laskin Road in Virginia Beach. The crash happened at night, but the biker was wearing bright lights.

The biker will need many months of recovery, and will be out of work. A GoFundMe page was set up for him to help with medical bills.

Our personal injury legal team in Virginia really hopes that this biker has a full recovery as soon as possible.

According to the NHTSA, 618 bikers were killed and 52,000 injured by cars in just 2010. Many of these incidents occur on the side of a highway, but many others also occur at intersections inside the crosswalk.

Any cyclist who has been injured by a car should speak to an experienced personal injury attorney. These types of cycling accidents are actually quite different from regular car accidents. Personal injury attorneys with experience in these types of crashes are the best way to ensure that you receive as much compensation as possible to help with your medical bills and loss of income.

We also have written this Best Guide to Car Accidents in Virginia, which can help car and biking accident victims understand why it is unwise to handle insurance companies on your own.
