Driver Charged in Death of Motorcyclist in Botetourt County | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What happened:

A 58 year old man was killed when the motorcycle he was driving hit a car that pulled in front of him. WSET reported that Richard Crowder, of Troutville, was driving his 2011 Honda motorcycle south on Route 11 in Botetourt County. A 2007 Ford Focus was traveling east on Old Route 604. The Focus pulled left onto Route 11, directly onto Mr. Crowder’s path. He was taken Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police say that the victim was wearing a helmet and the driver of the Focus was wearing his seat belt. The 50 year old driver, also from Troutville, has been charged with reckless driving.

The Virginia Injury Lawyer Perspective:

We all have a responsibility to use caution and safety when we are driving. As Virginia wrongful death attorneys, we’ve seen too many families deal with the tragedy of losing a loved one on a motorcycle because a driver of car or truck chose to disregard the rules of the road.

Even though this driver has been charged with reckless driving, the victim’s family may still want to pursue a wrongful death claim for their loss and suffering.
