Elderly Man Killed in Charlotte, NC Accident Caused by Red Light Runner | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A 68-year-old man was killed in a two-car crash in Charlotte, North Carolina (NC). The at-fault driver has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle in connection with the early morning accident at the intersection of Johnston Road and Providence Road West.

According to WCNC NewsChannel 36, Tyler Lowe, 20, drove his Toyota Scion through the intersection and hit a Chevrolet Cavalier driven by the man who lost his life at the scene. A second victim also suffered life-threatening injuries. Police said Lowe had swerved around another vehicle at a red light in order to enter the intersection.

My thoughts are with the elderly man’s family. Losing a loved one in such a senseless accident is difficult. I can only hope the injured victim can make a full recovery.

The police seem to have made the right call in charging the at-fault driver. When a driver ignores a stop signal, lives are at put at risk. In this case, a life was indeed lost. The only consolation for the elderly man’s family and friends is the idea that justice will be served.
