Electric Shock Injury Victim Receives $13.6 Million Jury Verdict | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A technician suffered a serious electric shock injury while servicing a heat pump. He touched an exposed wire while doing maintenance work at a hospital. The moment he touched the wire, nearly 500 volts of electricity went coursing through his veins.

He fell from a ladder he was on and suffered rib fractures, in addition to having his spleen removed. During his time in the hospital, he accrued over $400,000 in medical expenses, according to lawyersusaonline.com.

The injured technician made the wise decision to consult with an electric shock personal injury lawyer and filed a product liability claim against the heat pump maker.

The case went to trial and a jury decided to award $13.6 million to the victim. The verdict was over $7 million in actual damages and $4.5 million in punitive damages.

Our firm is glad to see an injured victim receive restitution through the civil justice system. We fully appreciate how complex and difficult these types of cases can be. For example, we represented an airline pilot who suffered a life-altering electric shock injury. We filed a claim on the worker’s behalf and were able to secure a $1.5 million settlement (read about the case result here).
