Falling Truck Cargo Causes NC Crash | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A Perdue Farms tractor trailer is responsible for a multi-vehicle accident in North Carolina, after two unsecured crates fell off the truck and into the roadway. Authorities say the crash occurred around 6 a.m. in Lewiston-Woodville at the intersection of Highways 11 and 308. The Perdue Farms tractor trailer was making a left onto Highway 11 when two large metal crates fell off. Another passing tractor trailer hit the first crate, causing the big rig to hit a ditch, two trees and a fence. The driver was trapped in his cab for several hours, and was eventually flown to a hospital with serious injuries.

The second crate was also hit by tractor trailer, sending the crate airborne. The crate struck a vehicle behind the tractor trailer. The driver of that car was also sent to hospital with injuries. Authorities report that the driver of the Perdue Farms tractor trailer has been charged with failure to secure his load.

Our thoughts go out to the victims in this accident. One can only imagine how frightening it must have been to see a large metal crate flying airborne, only to fall and directly hit your car. We can only hope the injured parties will make full recoveries.
