Fatal Car Wreck in North Carolina Leads to Murder Charges | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A Columbus County, North Carolina (NC) man was placed under arrest after a robbery attempt gone wrong resulted in the death of a woman named Joyce Campbell.

The at-fault driver was speeding away from cops when he tried to cross the US 74/76 highway at a very high rate of speed, running a stop sign in the process. As a result, he hit the car driven by the victim who was killed instantly in the accident. He then hit another vehicle that was stopped.

According to WWAY3, the passengers in the second car hit by the driver suffered injuries. Upon taking the driver to Columbus Regional Healthcare, the driver became uncooperative and at one point tried to grab an officer’s weapon. He is currently facing a murder charge with plenty more to be forthcoming. In addition to these current charges, he has an extensive criminal history that involves violent crimes.
