Dump Truck Accident Kills Taxi Passenger | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

When I think of riding on mass transit such as a bus or taxi I don’t think of imminent danger. But in fact as a passenger you are at the mercy of the driver. Please don’t be lulled into a false sense of security and always protect yourself by wearing a seat belt.

Tragically on Sunday a 55-year-old man riding in a taxi died when a dump truck struck the vehicle. As in this David and Goliath case, truck accident injuries have a tendency to be catastrophic, with severe injuries or fatalities being the rule as opposed to the exception.

The dump truck plowed into the taxi on the outside lane of Florida (FL) State Road 528 at 1:55 am, near mile marker 9. The impact of the truck pushed the cab about 220 feet forward. The cab driver is in critical condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center. Unfortunately, his passenger, who has not been identified, died at the scene.

As a Virginia personal injury attorney I know that trucker and truck operators are subject to a number of strict state and federal regulations. Trucks must be inspected frequently since truck brakes wear out quickly and other mechanical malfunctions are common. Truckers must keep detailed logs and cannot drive for long stretches of time. If you have a knowledgably attorney, you can use this information and evidence to your advantage.
