Fatal Head-on Collision in Orange County, VA | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What Happened

On February 20, 2013 a man died after a head-on collision in Orange County, Virginia (VA).

The accident took place near Buzzard Hollow Road on Route 33. According to the initial investigation, police say a Ford Van crossed over the center line and collided with a Ford pickup truck. The driver of the van pronounced dead on the scene, was identified as Aaron Strickland, 34. The victim in the pickup truck was 25-year-old Vincent Garrison who was rushed to University of Virginia Medical Center. Garrison suffered serious injuries in the head-on collision but his condition is unknown at this time.

The Virginia Personal Injury Lawyers’ Perspective

When someone crosses the center line they become a wrong way driver. There are many wrong way driver accidents every year that occur for a variety of reasons. Earlier in the month a very similar accident took place in Newport News when a man fell asleep behind the wheel and crossed over the center line striking one vehicle and colliding head on with a second. Drunk driving is also another leading cause of wrong way driver collisions. When a drunk driver causes a head-on collision it is very common the results are fatal. Last year in Lynchburg a drunk driver collided head-on with a vehicle making a left turn at an intersection, both the driver and passenger in the victim car were killed instantly.

Head-on collisions are always very serious accidents, and we can only hope that Mr. Garrison will recover from his injuries. It is very unfortunate the at-fault driver of this accident died, however this does not mean the Garrison family cannot pursue a personal injury claim. To proceed with a personal injury claim I would first recommend the Garrison family contact an experienced Virginia Beach personal injury lawyer. It is tragic that a man lost his life, but this does not change the fact that his actions caused the injuries of another person. Mr. Garrison has every right to pursue full compensation for his medical bills and lost wages. If it can be proven the at-fault driver was driving recklessly at the time of the accident it may be possible to seek punitive damages for pain and suffering. Having a Virginia (VA) personal injury lawyer on their side can help assure the Garrisons to receive proper restitution for his injuries.
