Fatal Washington Bus Accident Kills Two Injures Many | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Bus passengers are often lulled into a false since of security because they feel they are safe while riding on a bus since the vehicles are so big. Unfortunately, you are only as safe as the driver of the bus in these situations.

This was the case when a bus carrying soccer fans crashed killing two people and injuring 21 others. The bus forced one car off the road and then slammed into a disabled pickup truck on the shoulder of Interstate 90 in central Washington.

The wreck happened when the driver changed from the right lane into the left lane forcing a Hyundai off the road and into the median, where it overturned and came to a stop. A woman and a toddler in the Elantra suffered minor injuries.

The bus then veered back to the right, striking the disabled pickup. The truck’s driver was standing outside the truck when the bus slammed into it. The accident broke his leg and he was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

As a Virginia (VA) personal injury attorney I am experienced in handling mass transit accidents and know that they often have horrific consequences. The cause of this accident appears to be driver error due to improper lane change however other bus accidents can be caused by driver error or driver negligence, weather conditions, defective machinery, or lax bus maintenance. Many serious injuries or deaths involving buses happen to pedestrians, or children and adults getting on or off the vehicle.

Sadly this week four other people were killed in a bus accident in Virginia in a tragic accident involving a Sky Express bus that killed four people on a VA highway. In this case, the driver of the Sky Express bus has been cited for reckless driving, and the police are saying that driver fatigue was a factor.

Our firm has extensive experience representing the families of people who have been killed due to the negligence of others. Since bus accidents involve a commercial company and more than one victim they can be tough to work through. If you believe you or a family member has been the victim, please give us a call or fill out a quick contact form.
