Four Vehicles Involved in Chain Reaction Crash on US 13 in Eure, N.C. | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What happened:

Three people were transferred to area hospitals following a chain reaction accident on  US 13 just south of Tar Heel Barbecue, in Eure, N.C. The accident involved two passenger vehicles and two tractor trailers.

According to police reports, all the vehicles were traveling in the northbound lanes. Traffic was stopped due to utility work being done near the road. Three of the vehicles were stopped at the direction of a flagman.  The fourth vehicle, a 2000 Freightliner tractor trailer, failed to stop and plowed into a 2005 Honda, forcing it off the road and into a ditch, where it overturned.

The tractor trailer continued traveling and struck a 2012 International tractor trailer. The impact forced the International tractor trailer into a 1997 Oldsmobile.

The drivers of the Honda, Oldsmobile and the International were all transported to Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital. The driver of the Honda was then transported to another hospital, but no other information was released. The driver of the Freightliner tractor trailer was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

The North Carolina Injury Lawyer Perspective:

When tractor trailers are involved in accidents, the aftermath can be devastating. The size of these vehicles can cause horrific damage upon impact. Add speed and the results are many times fatal.

We’ve covered too many stories where tractor trailers have failed to stop like the fatal accident that recently happened in Pembroke, N.C. ; or the tractor trailer driver who was speeding and failed to stop at a red light and slammed into a pickup truck, killing the driver.

In both those accidents, the tractor trailer truck drivers were charged with misdemeanor death.

Our North Carolina personal injury law firm has represented many clients who were seriously injured in crashes caused by trucks, including the family of a victim who was killed when a vehicle he was a passenger in was rear-ended by a tractor trailer.
