Garinger High School Student Dies after Being Hit by SUV | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

An 18-year-old-student of Garinger High School was hit by an SUV while crossing the street in front of her school in Charlotte, North Carolina (NC). Tragically, she did not survive the accident.

According to WCNC, this was the second crosswalk accident that occurred on the very same day. Another student was hit earlier in the day and they suffered serious injuries.

The dangerous roads have the community worried. There are traffic lights at the intersection of Eastway Drive and West Sugar Creek Road. However, no crosswalks to help students cross easily.

Our firm understands just how serious crosswalk accidents can be. We represented a client who was injured while in a marked crosswalk. The defendant failed to see the plaintiff and struck him in his right leg, causing a severe fracture. We recognized the severity of the accident and were able to secure a $227,000 settlement for our client.
