An out of control dump truck on Lee Highway in Manassas struck a pickup truck and an SUV, killing one driver and injuring others.
According to the Manassas Patch, the Washington Post, and Inside Nova, a 65-year-old dump truck driver from Alexandria, Virginia, lost control of his commercial vehicle while driving southbound on Route 29 on Tuesday afternoon, November 15.
The truck veered into the northbound lanes, struck a Ford F350, and then overcorrected into the southbound lanes before striking a small northbound SUV head-on. The four people in the pickup truck were not seriously injured, though the driver of the pickup truck, a 40-year-old woman from Aldie, Virginia, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the SUV, 40-year-old Daniel S. Tulk of South Riding Virginia, died at the scene of the crash.
Virginia State Police are investigating whether or not speed, alcohol, or illegal substances were factors in the crash. At this time, no charges have been filed against the dump truck driver, but police are still collecting and analyzing evidence.
