Hobby Lobby Candles Recalled due to Fire Hazard | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

From 2007 – 2011, fires started by candles have caused 115 deaths and 903 injuries. Even with the utmost care, however, a candle may still a pose a safety hazard regardless of the user’s actions. Instead of enjoying candles for their intended purpose, those who use DD brand candles face the risk of a fire hazard in their home.

CoScentrix has recalled DD bran candles because the candle’s high flame can ignite the surface of the wax, posing a fire hazard.

The 168,000 units that have been recalled include four types of single-wick candles: Mason jars in 5- and 12- ounce sizes, decorative jars in 10- and 20-ounce sizes, 13-ounce coffee tins and 13-ounce jars with a holiday theme. The candles recalled come in a variety of fragrances and colors.

Recalled candles can be identified by the SKU numbers on a label on the underside of each container. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has a list of all of the SKU numbers of the candles recalled.

CoScentrix has received a report of a candle’s surface igniting spontaneously and without warning. The company has also had two previous recalls. From those recalls, the company received a total of 31 reports of the candle’s surface igniting, a reported injury, and 10 reports of property damage.

The DD brand candles could be purchased exclusively at Hobby Lobby from June 2014 through October 2014.

At our firm, we take burn injuries seriously. No person should have to concern themselves with defective products and the injuries they pose to users. The CPSC urges consumers to immediately stop using the candles and return them to the nearest Hobby Lobby for a full refund.
