Jeep Pushes Car onto Charlotte Light Rail Track, Injuring 7 | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Light rail systems are only as safe as the drivers on the road who obey traffic laws. A North Carolina man has been arrested for driving while impaired and reckless driving, after causing an accident that sent seven people to the hospital with injuries.

The crash occurred around 8:40 p.m. at Redmond road near South boulevard. A car was stopped, waiting for a light rail train to pass. A Jeep rear-ended the car, pushing it into the side of the passing train. Seven people – three from the cars and four from the train – were taken to the hospital with injuries. The Charlotte Area Transit System says all traffic signals and safety equipment was working at the time of the wreck.

This accident is incredibly scary and could have ended so much more tragically. Drunk and drugged drivers are dangerous under any condition, but when you add a light-rail train into the mix, the accident becomes all the more deadly. I can’t think of a scarier situation, to feel my car being pushed toward a passing train. Our thoughts go out to the victims. We can only hope they all make full recoveries.

Drunk drivers must pay for their selfish decision to drive while impaired. If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident because of a drunk or drugged driver, consider consulting with an experienced NC injury attorney. We’ll help you send the message that impaired drivers can’t get away with putting the lives of others at risk in the name of having a good time.
