Kannapolis, North Carolina (NC) Senior in Wheelchair Hit and Killed | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What Happened

In Kannapolis, North Carolina (NC) police reported a 60-year-old woman died when she tried to cross the street.

The accident occurred on North Cannon Boulevard on the evening of January 20, 2013. The woman was crossing the street in a motorized wheelchair when she was suddenly struck by a car and killed.

The accident is still under investigation.

The North Carolina Personal Injury Lawyers’ Perspective

Our sympathy goes out to the family of the elderly woman. It is hard to imagine a driver so distracted that he or she does not see someone on a motorized wheel chair crossing the street. It is likely this accident is the cause of a distracted driver. The number of accidents and deaths from distracted driving has increased every year. As a North Carolina personal injury attorney I have represented many victims of distracted drivers and victims struck at crosswalks.  If the investigation determines the driver of the car is to blame, the deceased woman’s family members may have grounds for filing claims for compensation with the help of a North Carolina personal injury and wrongful death attorney.
