Kernsville, North Carolina (NC) Student Hit Getting on School Bus | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What Happened

In Kernersville North Carolina (NC) a 11-year-old 6th grader missed his bus and tragically lost his life. The North Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the student was attempting to cross the street to meet his bus to Forsyth County middle school, which had turned around and was heading back towards the student.

A driver of a sport utility vehicle struck the boy when he crossed the street. He was taken to the hospital where he passed away from his injuries. There is an ensuing investigation but it is more than likely the driver of the SUV was not paying enough attention to the road at a time of day when students are getting on the school bus.

The bus driver states that she had all signals in use. The lights were flashing and the arm extended warning both oncoming and following traffic that the bus was preparing to stop.
