Little Boy Dies in Two Car Crash in Rockingham, NC | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What Happened:

A grandmother and her nine year-old grandson were driving on East Broad Avenue in Rockingham, North Carolina, when another car slammed into them from Lady Mary Lane. The violence of the crash sent the grandmother’s car flying into Richmond Memorial Park.

The child died and the grandmother, Emma Williams, was injured and sent to a local hospital . She is in fair condition.

According to witnesses, the car that smashed into the grandmother’s car was racing a third car, but the police have yet to confirm that detail. Witnesses also reported that the third car fled the scene. Police are investigating to determine if speed and racing were involved in the accident.

The driver of the car that smashed into William’s vehicle was injured and sent to the hospital. His passenger also was sent to the hospital. Both have since been released.

North Carolina Injury Lawyer’s Perspective:

We are saddened to learn of the death of the child in this foolish accident. It is our hope that those responsible for this tragedy are punished to the full extent allowed by law. The injured driver and her family should contact an experienced North Carolina personal injury lawyer.

Based upon the facts of the case to date, it appears that the drivers of the second and third cars could be held liable in a wrongful death civil case. Even if criminal charges are filed later, this does not preclude the family from seeking financial damages in a civil claim.
