Police stated that three adults, two children and an unborn child died in the wreck on Route 50 at about 1 am. The car and truck hit each other at a major intersection near Chesapeake College. The truck flipped and rolled over the car.
Most of the family died at the scene, and one child was airlifted to a local hospital but died soon after arrival. The truck driver also was injured and was airlifted to the same hospital. He was released the next day.
The cause of the wreck is still unclear, according to police reports. Investigators are still determining which vehicle ran the red light at the intersection.
We sincerely regret the loss of life in this terrible tragedy. When cars and trucks collide, the car usually takes the worst of the damage and loss of life is common. As truck wreck personal injury lawyers, we have seen many cases where truck drivers were negligent and caused serious injury or death to car passengers. Of course, most trucking companies have substantial financial resources and will attempt to partially or totally deny a potential claim.
A good personal injury attorney, however, can often win a truck crash victim a substantial settlement, such as this $3.5 million settlement we won for a client who lost his life when a big rig rear ended his car.
We hope that the family of the lost in this terrible crash are able to determine who was at fault and if necessary, to move forward with appropriate legal action.
